Jack Hume was a long-term member of the Heather & Thistle Society which he joined in 1955 two years after it was formed in Houston Texas. His contributions to the Society, the Robert Burns Club of Houston formed in 1984 and RBANA were immeasurable. In 2016 he established a poetry competition designed to encourage interest in and honour the legacy of Robert Burns. Jack’s photo is on the left below, and the trophy on the right.

The winner of the 2025 Competition was Henry Cairney (Right of photo) of the Calgary Burns Club with his poem entitled “The Bonnie Banks O’ Nith”.
